He's Here!!!

So I went into labor on Sunday around 5pm. At first I thought I had really bad gas, but then I found out it wasn't. They came in waves and felt like painful menstrual cramps. I had something to eat and Jake got everything together and put in our truck. It was snowing like crazy outside. We weren't quite sure if the contractions were regular or not because sometimes they would come after less than a minute and sometimes there would be about 3 minutes between the contractions. We finally decided it was about time to go to the hospital so our home teacher came over and Jake gave me a blessing. We then went to the hospital around 8pm. A little bit into labor the nurse asked if my back was hurting. It was killing me. She then said that my baby was probably posterior. We didn't really know what that meant, so we thought it was normal. I decided to do a natural childbirth. The labor was coming along fine, except it was very painful and my back always seemed to hurt. I finally dialated enough to push so I started pushing. I pushed for about an hour and a half. Then the doctor said that the baby was posterior and he needed to turn him. So they put a local anesthetic on and the doctor was able to turn him. After that I pushed for about 20 minutes and he was out. I had a third degree tear (ouch!!!), but I was able to walk from the delivery room up to my room on the next floor. Later on I found out that when your baby is posterior labor is much more painful. I also found out there are ways to turn the baby before they get to the birth canal. I wish I knew that before I went through all of labor with extremely painful backpain. I made Jake rub my back almost the whole time, so he was tired, too. He was always happy when I wanted more ice chips or turn off the fan. I never wanted to ask for that stuff because I knew he'd stop rubbing my back and it felt so much better with him rubbing my back. Our little boy, Jacob Teancum (Tean for short) was born at 2:30 in the morning on January 26. He was 7 lbs 5 oz and 21 inches long. I can never tell who babies look like, but the nurse said that he looks like his dad and Jake's parents said that his nose was like my nose. Whoever he looks like, he is a really cute baby. His head is a little deformed from being stuck in the birth canal for so long. Mom and baby are both doing fine. Just really, really tired! We are so excited for this new chapter to begin in our life!
