Montreal, Canada

Last month, Jake and I took a trip to Montreal, Canada.  Jake had to go over there for work, so I came along.  I had never been to Canada, and Jake didn't have to work a whole lot while there, so I went along to enjoy the city.  It was our first trip we have been on since we have had kids.  I was a little nervous leaving Ziah.  We left our kids with Jake's parents.
The first day there, Jake had meetings in the morning, so I exercised at the hotel, took my time getting ready, then headed out on foot to find some lunch.  I found a mall, ate lunch in their food court, and then explored the city.  I saw a cool building so I walked toward it and took pictures.
There were lots of churches like this.  After I saw it, Jake called me and said he was done, so we met and decided to walk down to the Old Montreal Harbor.  On our way there we went through China town and tried a Chinese treat.
We also saw the Norte Dame Church and the big plaza that was in front of it.  We didn't pay to go in because I read online that if you have seen the churches in Europe, it was just like those, and since we saw a lot of those while we were on our trip to Europe, we decided to pass on this church.

As we got into Old Montreal, the roads were made of brick.
There wasn't a lot to see in the harbor, but it was pretty to walk along.
We saw this cool building, so we walked to it and saw that it was a church.  We went inside and it was beautiful inside.
There were murals painted on the ceilings

and lots of beautiful stain glass windows depicting the life of Christ.
We walked along a street in Old Montreal that had a lot of little shops.  We were looking for some maple syrup because Canada is famous for their syrup.  We found a little cafe where we tried a maple croissant that was actually delicious (I'm not a big fan of maple syrup, but I enjoyed the real stuff).  In the basement, there was a mini museum that told how maple syrup was made in the past and how it is made now.
We enjoyed our day exploring the city.  That evening we met up with some of the people Jake came to see for dinner.  We had poutin, which is French Fries with gravy and cheese on top, ours had steak in it too.  It was actually really good.  Everyone was surprised by how much Jake could eat.  He ordered his meal, and then the people we came with said we had to try poutin, so he ordered that, and the waiter was surprised he wanted that AND his meal.  Then Jake ordered another poutin because it was so good and he was still surprised he wanted more.  Everyone tried the poutin and said it was the best they had ever had.  We enjoyed our time in the city.
