New Orleans, Lousiana

At the beginning of September, Jake and I went on a cruise.  We didn't take our kids.  Jake's sister, Julie, came to our house and stayed there and watched our kids for the week.  Ziah decided he needed to help me pack and maybe sneak in the luggage to go with me.
We left from New Orleans, Lousiana.  Before we got on the ship, we went on a swamp river boat cruise.
We saw lots of alligators.  Our guide fed the alligators marshmallows.
Guess they don't have to worry about the alligators getting cavities.
I was surprised at how many alligators we saw.
They heard the boat and they swam towards it.
I guess they knew they were going to get some yummy food.
The swamp area was beautiful.  Lots of green trees.

The plant that is on the water is not native to the area.  It was introduced to the area during a world fair and has been a problem ever since.  If it gets into little ponds it will kill everything in the water because it doesn't let sun in.  There is enough movement in the swamp that everything is okay in there.
 Having fun on the trip!
There is a little fishing village on the swamp.

A lot of the houses looked like they were going to fall apart in the next big storm.  Some people lived there all the time, others just had it as a vacation house.
This was a really cool bridge that we went under.  It has to be cranked to go up and you have to give them 4 hours notice for them to lift up the bridge.
We had an awesome time on the swamp river tour.  It was cool to see some alligators out in the wild and the other wildlife that we saw, turtles, a family of racoons, huge spiders, pelicans.  It was a great part of our trip.
